I'm thinking about getting a set so the kids (5 & 8) can keep in touch when they are cycling / playing around the camp site and me fishing on the lake

I probably need 3 in total, so nothing too expensive - maybe £20 each. They need to be legal in UK / FR / NL

Any suggestions?

We have a pair of Uniden which we bought many years ago. Use them loads and they are still going strong.

I have noticed ours have a longer range than most I see.

Your best bet would be radio's that are the PMR446 standard througout Europe. Range is very subjective, but in the clear, you'll be getting well over a mile at least. Once trees and buildings are in the way, obviously, the range drops.

Although Maplin below arent the cheapest around, at least its a shop that you could return to if in the worst case scenario, one goes belly up.

Decathlon had a set of 2 for less than £20

We have some baofeng 888. Which are great. But the need to be programmed before you use them. Cost about £19 for 2 from Amazon + you need a USB cable

These possibly? (they do list other models)

All appear to be PMR 446 compliant, so licence-free legal in most of Europe (including UK).

Ours have a number of different channels they operate on. If someone else is on the same channel you will hear them and vice versa.

There are only a limited number of channels available for all of these radios.

Better to spend a bit more to get the ones that offer a bit of privacy with more channels.

Motorola makes good 2-way radios, I swear by them.
