As somebody who owns a Biolite stove, MSR petrol stove and JetBoil gas stove I think the Biolite is an excellent product for grilling food (when used with the optional grill attachment). Personally I wouldn't use it for boiling water or general cooking as the MSR and JetBoil are way more efficient and better-suited for those tasks. I therefore only use it as a grill - but it is really great for cooking sausages, burgers, kebabs etc...

Forget the fact that it has a USB port. The Biolite doesn't generate enough power to be useful and it is too heavy for backpacking anyway. What is important is that it generates enough power to charge its internal battery and power the fan. It's the fan that really makes all the difference - allowing you to start cooking within a minute or two of setting it up. It also cools down really quickly when you've finished which makes it great for picnics.

I've had my Biolite stove for a couple of years and, although I've had some issues with the grill accessory rusting and becoming distorted, it's still working - at least for now. The fact that it rusts and becomes distorted so easily is somewhat disappointing for such an expensive product that is supposed to be made for backpacking and camping (so will typically be exposed to damp conditions and be knocked about a fair bit).
