What's the best lantern for around 20 to 30 quid? I liked look of the coleman ones with detacable torches but they discontinued now I think. Would like rechargeable too if possible.

Outwell Carnelian 600 Lumen £25 about as good as it gets for a LED lantern, but still only about half the brightness of a CampinGaz single mantle lantern, not to mention still not as bright as a Vapalux 320 pressure paraffin lantern from WW2!

We've got two ust 30 day laterns and they are super bright but can be dimmed (there are three settings)

Not had the opportunity to see if it would run continuously for 30 days as we use EHU to run a lamp - however not changed the batteries for a couple of years. The ones we have glow in the dark which can be handy.

The light is fairly white - but that generally seems to be the norm now.

I've got this type here. There are various versions on Amazon at varying prices, all similar but they certainly work well & have good battery life.

The Vango light barrel is a great light which covers all bases; it's rechargeable ano wind up, has two levels of lights and will last up to 8 hours.

This is the one to go for as suggested I have two of various brands look out for the ring version I managed to get that for £9.95 delivered on amazon. I can vouch for the battery performance is excellent.

Think of something like this - a torch and lantern all in one.
This is even better, though more expensive than you budgeted for. You can, however, get cheaper versions; I got three from ALDI a few months back - all with a detachable diffuser. They are REALLY good and I strongly recommend them.
In case you don't know, CREE LED are incredibly powerful torches and in torch mode can easily cast a beam of light 100-200 metres away.

I have one of these too. It is the best battery lantern that I have had over the years and is now in its second season with the same batteries.

Not as quite as bright as a gas lantern but brighter than any of the multiple LED or fluorescent lanterns and far better battery life.

Thanks I ordered one of these should be here Thursday. Going Camping next week, hope the weather stays like this.

I used to use one of the lanterns as recommended above but now I use a Lanktoo lantern.
Smaller, lighter but provides more light and doesn't require expensive batteries as you recharge it via USB.

I fully charged mine then took it away for 3 nights. We had it on full brightness each night until my daughter went to bed when we then turned it down to minimum brightness. It was then left on all night until we woke up in the morning.
There are 4 small blue lights on top of the unit which show the charge level and it dropped by 1 of 4 in that time.

It can also provide a charge to other USB devices.
