recently I purchased a used caravan with a carver water heater and a fanmaster warm air kit fitted, I used the van for the first time last weekend at an isolated area for a motorcycle event and couldn't get the water heater to work , researching the matter I find that there are two heaters one of which, it appears, will only work on 240 volts, I did notice the only swith just read water heater and there wasn't any switch orlighting as fitted to my old Mardon, Have I got a mains only heater and how do you Identify the two pse? kind regards
Our carver water heater has 2 switches, one for using gas, one for EHU. One heater, not two. The Electricity switch was hidden in our wardrobe. The gas was on the bulkhead by the seats. Follow the cables back from your heater to find yours.
As it happens, the gas burner element of our carver had rusted away (whiff of gas by the outside cowl). Carver isn't made any more, there are alternatives (we fitted a Henry). But it sounds like a habitation service would be a good to get everything checked over & make sure you're safe. You don't want to mess with gas fittings.
thanks Fiona, I'm pretty practical to the extent that I build my bungalow, however you are right to be wary of gas, anyway examined the heater today with a chum and sure enough there is a gas conection, but blinded looking for an older type switch I missed the one above the charging etc indicator which really was under my nose and 'tis this that controls the heater! doh!! the friend who was with me suggests I don't go out alone! kind regards
It's a steep learning curve, but lots of folk here are happy to help - and if you search first, you may find someone's "been there & done that" so you don't even need to ask. More important - enjoy your camping!
