I would not bother with rechargeable, apart from using rechargeable "D" Cells in a regular battery operated lantern.
Best of the bunch at the moment is the Outwell Carnelian at 600 Lumens, not sure if it is Dimmerble though.
We have two of the Outwell 400LX Lanterns, which are Dimmerble and remote control which is a nice touch.
Both of the above run on 6 x "D" Cells, which we got from Lidl at £1.50 a each, the Lanterns will run for a very long time on "D" Cells.
Ther are smaller versions of the Outwell 400LX namely the 300LX which run of 3 "D" Cells, there are also 500 Lumen versions and others from the likes of Cyba, Ring, and Varta to name but three, although they look like the Carnelian and 400LX they are using the much smaller body and lense like the Outwell 300LX.
Fact is ev n at 600 Lumen, that is still only half the brightness of a single mantle gas Lantern.
Having said that we find 400 Lumen is bright enough for all occasions, but as ever, what will do more will do less.
Our main light in the Tent when on EHU is a 105watt (150 watt old money) Halogen Lantern with inline Dimmer Control, as at full tilt would be 1,800 Lumens!
