Can anyone recommend pegs that work on hard, rocky, dry pitches? We camp in the south of France through the summer, which we love, but our big woe is that it's nearly impossible to get a peg in the ground down here! The typical pitch is hard dried clay with rocks... it laughs at the standard tent pegs and even bends those big 'v' profile ones. the result is a very scruffy looking pitch and an awning that blows around in the wind, kicking up dust and generally being a PITA.
Any recommendations for pegging systems that work in challenging substrates??
Rock Pegs are an essential part of any camping kit, and they can be found in Halfords only they call them Ground Hogs.
You also need a decent claw hammer to get them in. I carry a peg bag with a variety of types of pegs plus a couple of rubber mallets and a claw hammer. The back of the hammer doubles as a peg puller.
Rock pegs and a proper mallet, not one of those lightweight jobs.
Over time I've acquired sufficient of these that I never used standard tent issue, which are pretty much useless. Now that I have a caravan I use them for that as well.
Buy right - buy once!
------------- Camping Gear expands so as to fill the space available for its transportation.
I second the Delta metal pegs 100% reliable, better than anything else we have tried including Blue Diamond. Have 8 but would like some more for Christmas!!
------------- 2018 & so it begins.
April - please, just one weekend!
May - Who knows....
June - Tristram, Polzeath 10 nights
August - Dartmouth Regatta 4 nights

We have used marquee pegs on our seasonal pitch, not sure how we are going to get them out but they work. Here
We have a handful of them......
And bent quite a few on both Edinburgh's and Birmingham's Caravan Club site pitches!!!!!
