You can`t go far wrong with Vango bags, and they`re not significantly more expensive than the Argos offerings.
Nitestars are almost all mummy style, and the Astrals have square ends. Both have hoods...recommended. If you don`t want a hood there is the Vango Orion. There are other Vango bags as well, both for family camping and hi-tec ones.
All of the three named above come in Midi, adult and XL sizes. (Actually, not sure about the Orion in Midi...) They come in a range of weights...250s are good for two seasons or if you`re chilly souls then go higher to a 300 or 350, especially if you camp towards either end of the autumn or spring.
My three year old is in a Midi, but I`ve tall children and her brother was too tall for it aged 5. I think you should get adult bags for the older ones. You can always shove a fleece blanket down to the bottom, or tie a strap round the tail of the bag.
I feel the cold but have always been very happy with Vango bags - just parted with a 14 year old nitestar to a charity shop cos the filling was no longer quite even, and now I have an astral 350, which will zip up to OH's one which he got last year -aw...........snug!
When I bought my Vango Astral 350 super bag last week me and my 4 year old got into our bags on the living room floor, and fell asleep! It was so cosy, cant wait to use it outdoors.
Just made 2 liners for the kids bags out of an old space duvet cover! ,works a treat even stitched hoops and buttons into the corners of liners and bags to keep them in place !!
Skatty is female and Skatty was a very very Plished female at the time too !! and the stitching is almost straight !!! and I didnt forget to leave an end open for the kids to get in !
One tiop - we only found out later - is buy the bags with left and right zips. Then you can zip 'em together if it gets really chilly, especially if you have little kids.)Our little boy likes to cuddle his mum) We bought 3 Vangos from our local camp shop, all with right side zips, and he didn't tell us this option was available so we now have to buy another.
Thanks all for the very useful information to see me on my spending spree!!!
With regards to the Vango kids sleeping bags, do you thinik just the youngest one (18 months) would need an all in one fleece sleepsuit, or do you think the others aged 7 & 3 would be better to have them too ?
I know it's hard to judge how cold we could be, but i'd rather be prepared as knowing our luck we'll have the coldest wettest summer on record!!!!!
