Hi guys, new to the forum and camping and first post here and I need to pick some brains.
We have just bought a new oasis 8 tent with the intention of going away at weekends and, work permitting, longer stays of upto a couple of weeks. I really need advice on what would be better, separate table top fridge and freezer or a small fridge freezer. I know on some sites we would be limited with the amps and I'm confused as to weather any of the above appliances would work on a EHU. We were thinking of buying readily available appliances from citrusy dixons etc rather that the more expensive special camping appliances.. Any help is most welcome.
Mike

We use a Mobicool C40 (not B40) which works like a regular domestic Fridge, or can be used as a Freezer, with two units I guess you could have Fridge/Freezer solution.

To be fair though we have never found the need for a Freezer, although having a decent Fridge has been a godsend for our fortnight campings in the South of France during July.

I dismissed Table Top fridges as a compromise to far, despite there low price, in comparison to a pukka mains only portable camping Fridge like the Mobicool C40 or Waeco CoolFun CK40D (none hybrid version).

Cheers for that mate... Sounds like a good idea but we really wanted a fridge freezer as we will be staying on sites for at least two weeks and don't really fancy going to the shops or supermarket every couple of days

Yep, Waeco do a 65lt Fridge Freezer, with two separate compartments, but it is expensive at around £750 being 12/24v and mains 240v ac.

Even my idea of using two Mobicool C40's would be close on £300.

You would think that you could buy a domestic mini fridge freezer, say 75lt with 40lt for fridge and 35lt for freezer, but I don't think such a model exists.

Sorry for asking what may be a stupid question then( we're new to camping) but why can't we use a domestic fridge freezer?

If you have the capability to transport it then no reason why you can't use a regular fridge freezer.

Are you talking full size or an under counter model, although I am not aware that they make under counter combined fridge freezers.

Just noticed that next Thursday, Alidi are doing a Table Top 17lt fridge that can go to -15Deg so in theory it could be used as a freezer.

If possible I'd like to use a fridge freezer as that will mean only having to use one plug socket rather that two. But I'm struggling to find a fridge freezer with a usable size freezer. If push comes to shove I'd have to an under counter fridge and separate freezer... I'm just worried about how two appliances might effect the amps.. As for transport, all the camping gear hoes in a 6x4 ft double deck trailer so got plenty of room.

We keep a Waeco CF25 compressor fridge in the car, but when back at the Tent I run an extention lead from the EHU to the car boot, to power the Waeco.

We also have running the Mobicool C40 in the Tent which also is a compressor fridge, and with both fridges running it has never tripped the EHU which is rated 10amp.

Other high draw electric things that we have running at the same time as the two fridges, would be 1000watt kettle and 1300watt mini oven, although I make a device to keep an eye on the amps.

Check out my post "EHU Amp Monitor".
