Have just bought a second hand (it is clean!) porta potti to enable us to go for weekends in our tent to out of season sites without full facilities. I've seen posts saying that proper chemicals are not necessary & cheaper alternatives can be used? I want something that is environmentally friendly, will break down waste, reduce any pong & is cheap! Any suggestions would be gratefully please. Thanks Sue
The cheapest you will get is from Aldi but they only have them in stock once in a while. However, whether the blue breaks down waste efficiently is another question because I have found that you get what you pay for as the cheaper ones are often watered down to cut the cost so the efficiency is reduced respectively.
Probably a lot of posts on this over the years and it has been mentioned a lot of times that cheaper blue fluids are not as good as the well known brands.
I do think the dearer ones are thicker when you pour them, where the cheapy stuff is very water like.
Personally I prefer to use pink in the top flush tank, mainly as it smells nice and blue in the bottom waste tank, don't know if it does break up deposits as I've never looked but it doesn't stink when i empty it. We use the concentrated stuff only 30mm per fill

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
I use a green fluid, no idea what it's called, that I bought in the range when we got our portaloo. It's an environmentally friendly one and seems to work fine. No nasty smells etc.
They still sell it.
Mine was about £12..00 five or more years back and still only used about half. Use it for about 4 weeks a year.
