I have a char-broil grill2go portable bbq that runs well on gas canisters. However, I want to convert it to run on propane from a separate gas bottle/ supply from the caravan outlet.
Sounds simple - buy a bottle, get a regulator, get the adapter and put them all together....
The end result is virtually no gas at the burner!
I'm wondering if the fact that the gas bottle has a regulator and the bbq also has a regulator is stopping the gas coming through.
thoughts on my theory and any ideas for ways to get round it very much appreciated.
Are you using the kit for the conversion or using a regulator and piece of hose as looking at the pics of the kit it doesn't seem that it has a regulator in it so it could be down to having two regulators dropping the pressure too much
You just need the one regulator because once the gas flow has been regulated it doesn't require a repeat process so this is the reason why no gas is reaching the burner.
It's very much like having one oil filter in the car engine because if you introduce a second one it will affect the oil pressure so a stronger oil pump would be required to circulate the oil round the engine components more efficiently.
I wanted to use my calor gas bottle, as I already take that for a cooker I have, and the available seperate hose (shown above) only works with the patio gas cyclinders.
So I took the BBQ regulator to a local hydraulic hose place and told them what I wanted:
Push fit connection - to go onto blue 4.5Kg calor regulator
T junction - so can be hooked up to bbq and cooker at the same time
Inline tap - so I can adjust gas flow to BBQ
Outlet - original BBQ jet, removed from original BBQ regulator.
They charged me £15 cash for this, and knocked it all up in about 15 minutes.
Let me know if you want any pictures or further details. Your local hydraulic / hose supplier can do anything really.
