Nothing wrong with the B40, for me the C40 was cheaper at the time £139.
I only needed a fridge to run on EHU, so no point in have the B40 it's 12v option only offers cooling to 18Deg below ambient, which is useless in the South of France.
We got the C40 in 2013, as we had been using a Waeco CF25 since 2008 but it's capacity when on the main campsite was just to limiting.
We still carry the CF25, it's great for the 1000 mile (3 day) journey to the campsite, and also usefull when there is no mains electric available.
But the capacity of the C40 is just awesome for our fortnight campings.
If I was buying today, I would go for the Mobicool FR40, which offers the best of both worlds at a reasonable price.
The FR40, looks good although expensive. But I might be able to justify the cost as we are in France (in July) for 3 weeks)
Yep, but the Mobicool FR40 is a snip at £289 inc delivery, compared to the equivalent Waeco CF unit.
The downside of my set up is the space that the C40 and CF25 take up, but having spent £150 on the CF25 and £139 on the C40 my investment on cooling is quite enough at £289.
Although that cost has been spread over 9 years, so at around £30 per year it has worked out a lot cheaper than hiring a fridge from the campsite.
Not to mention having the capability of mobile cooling.
The domestic fridge is good but really want cooling on the way through France to keep cold drinks and sandwiches cool.
The B40 can run on the car and the extra capacity over our current outwell 24L box means i don't need to take the outwell at all, great for getting into the car (normal hatchback). The fact it then can go onto mains as a fridge means it does exactly what we want.
Bit over our budget of £130 ish as the B40 is around the £200 mark, but can just manage that without with the dual function.
Yep oohmyback, I can see were you are comming from, and Thermoelectric cooling should be fine for in car, although I would only use for soft drinks etc, would not trust it for dairy or meat products, were +4 DegC is required to keep such items safe for consumption.

Cold drinks, ready made sandwiches in the coolbox for the way down.
Stop off at Hypermarket in France and put the chilled stuff in the coolbox. Then as soon as we hit the campsite plug it in to the mains. Mostly we keep veg in them anyway as we don't tend to eat much meat, and a few cold drinks, so thinking setting about the same as our fridge in the kitchen.
I take your point about not travelling with dairy or meat in the car, and thanks for the useful advice.
Yep that's is a good plan, different cenairio for us, as we are on the road for almost 4 days, before arriving at the main campsite.
And then almost 3 days on the return journey, so we are kinda living out of the car for 7 days, only punctuated with 5 over night stop's in "Premiere Classe" budget hotels.
We love the travelling as much as the time spent on the main campsite, and our mid day treat along the autoroute's is to pull onto one of the quiet Aires, and spend an hour or so having a picnic for lunch.
Last year was a first for me in a tent, we took out little fridge that we already had already at home. Its currys this one from currys and served us well for the week in Northumberland. It was very handy to have, seen as we already had it and dont own a powered cool box. I just put it in the trailer, plus it hardly weighs anything too which is good.
Just my opinion but I feel that the Waeco CFX40W is best suited to folk going on long tropical safaris or ocean trips etc, it really is a professional piece of kit there is no disputing that fact.
But with the Mobicool FR40 now being available, which for camping duties will perform just about the same, I would have gone for the £237 saving!
Both the Mobicool and Waeco come from Dometic, so they are both trusted brands.
Of course if money was no object, then it would be the Waeco every time.
On the upside for the CFX40W though, is that you can get an optional wireless digital tempreture unit for it, only another extra £50.
