Has anyone used the Campingaz Xcelerate stoves?
I have mostly camped lightweight and have been using the Campingaz stoves that use the CV470 Propane/Butane disposable cylinders.
Since I plan to do more medium weight car camping next year I have ben wondering about a double burner stove with a refillable gas cylinder. As I do go to France Campingaz is the obvious choice as refills are available there.
Refillable gas cylinders allow one to cook more and not to have to depend on heat and serve meals to save gas.
I have used Campingaz double burner stoves in the past and been unimpressed by their performance. If the improvement in technology from the S200 stoves to CV470 stoves is matched by the Campingaz Xcelerate stoves then I'm prepared to buy. So could someone please tell me how good these new stoves are.
I've had two, worked well when they worked but I unfortunately had issues with both. 1st one I had to go out and buy matches as the ignition didn't work (I now remember to test anything new before getting to the campsite), took it back to GO and they replaced............with one that started to fall apart on it's second time out - clasp snapped off and one of the hinges broke.
The burners themselves are great but if I'm honest there's no noticeable difference to the cheaper basic double burner for me as I cook in a porch, you'll need someone who uses it in windier circumstances to give you better feedback. The grill is a bread warmer, I bought a toaster for our next trip lol.
Credit to GO, took both of them back with no probs, guy told me they'd had several returned with build quality issues, second time they refunded the difference as I went for the basic double burner which I've used several times with no issues at all.

I'd save your money & just get any double burner stove. You don't have to get Campingaz brand you are paying for the name. I needed a double burner this yr & got one s/h off ebay near me for £11. Worked a treat. For a given regulated flow of gas from bottle one stove is going to be as good as any other.
A double burner that uses rubber hose/regulator/bottle will work with either Campingaz 907 bottle or Calor with correct regulator. Probably more important for choice of stove for outside use with quick setup is how good the built in windbreaks are ie hinged up lid & side pieces. Biggest heat loss is caused by wind blowing heat away from under pan.
In the end I bought this

A 3 KW Super Magnum Stove.
It screws direct onto a Campingaz refillable cylinder and is very powerful burning with a roar not a hiss.
I managed to buy a Campingaz 907 gas cylinder on E Bay nearly full for £25 and for a lot less than new.
I wanted one powerful stove burner and can use lightweight stoves if I need to 2 or 3 pans at once.
Since I've saved so much on the stove and gas bottle I treated myself to one of these:

Campingaz Grill Plate for Portable Gas Stove, it will be fun trying it out, feeling hungry already.
We needed something that could be used in cooler conditions as this was one issue (could not get any heat) we had with using butane gas so we were happy to find this quality item that has regulator built into it.
We also use it with a Refillable Propane cylinder on longer camps. The use of which has been discussed on the forums. Some frown upon it others don't.
I like the look of the setup you have linked to it's just that butane does not produce the heat in cool temps. If you are a camper in warm weather I bet that is a winner. Nice and compact.
Bought my Xcelerate a couple of years ago. Price was greatly reduced as it had a small dent in the lid.
Are they any good, well yes and no. It boils a kettle a bit quicker than a normal stove. But it is difficult to control the flame when you want to simmer.
The grill is rubbish.
The pan supports are going rusty.
The plastic feet have started to break up. (will make some custom alloy ones)
Not realy worth the money but if you are out in windy conditions you don't lose most of the heat.

I've bought 2 Campingaz bottles from Ebay from 2 different local vendors, I was rather surprised to discover that one lived in no 35 and the other in no 53 in the same street and the same post code although they were completely different sales.
One is a 907 the 2nd a 904 although both were advertised as 904s.
boils a kettle very fast - but as with all campingaz stoves - simmering is impossible - the flame is way too hot.
the grill is only useful to take the chill off the tent on a frosty night and to warm plates or to keep food warm thats already been cooked - i keep my bacon warm under it till my eggs are cooked!.
its ok - but pricey for what it is and you still need to buy a carry bag / holdall or something to transport it in if you want to keep it looking good.
i got a deal on mine buying it in the winter which took a bit of the sting out of it. id give it 6/10

I love my 600SG- okay it is difficult to control a simmer but that was soon solved with a diffuser mat. After years of using the camping chef I knew the grill would be rubbish so I didn't buy that mode. Like the idea I don't have to lug the cooker stand with me.
we have a Campingaz Xcelerate stove and absolutely love it...it's an excellent piece of kit...when we first bought it one of the burners didn't want to light, but suddenly changed its mind after a few days and has worked perfectly ever since...
simmering isn't a problem for us at all...once the burner is lit you simply turn the burner control knob back towards the off position and get it as close to off as possible...this will give you a constant low flame...
yes the grill is a bit redundant for anything other than keeping things warm, but isn't that the way with most camping stove grills...?
