Hi Guys
Firstly merry christmas to everyone.
Just arrived today for an 8 night stay at Chatsworth site plugged my mains lead in only to get smoke coming from the mains unit Faced with either trying to get it repaired as we had no 240v or going back home the warden gave us the card of an excellent guy called Warren from Total Caravan Services (cannot recommend highly enough!) who found a faulty rcd and also the battery charging unit had burnt out too. He fortunately had an rcd with him but not a batt charging unit and I did wonder if this would be covered under warranty as our Coachman van is 18month old?.
Can`t check my own documents until we get back home but wondered if anyone else had one fail under w/tee.
Its a 20amp PS276-1-BCSM.
cheers
Steve
If the caravan was new 18 months ago then the charger/transformer unit and the RCD should come under the 5 year warranty. You may have to take the caravan back to the dealer for the new charger/transformer to be fitted and if you have the receipt for the replacement RCD unit then ask for reimbursement as it was the only alternative solution at the time. After all, the parts were not fit for purpose.
Thanks for the quick reply Tango66. Yes kept receipt and did wonder if it was covered, of course now the charger is out we now rely on the solar panel charging the batt up again for lights pump etc currently at 6volts and dropping lights getting dimmer never mind other folks a lot worse off, have to get a 240v light tomorrow, whoever said caravanning was easy .

Charge it off the car Via 12s? If you get stuck next time plug car in and leave it ticking over for an hour or so not ideal but will do the trick remember my grandfather had a home made 12s extension lead for the job
Hi guys
Bit of an update!. The charger burning out seems to have been my interpretation of what Warren said .
The problem we had was just the rcd unit and the burning smell was such that it seemed to eminate from the charger as well because it was in the same unit. I refitted the `faulty` charger and its been perfect no problems at all but many thanks for the helpful advice .I`ll get it checked at the dealers just to be on the safe side though.
Happy new year!
cheers
Steve
