As many of you will know I won a Campingaz Party Grill on day 24 of the advent calendar. I am still waiting for it to arrive but in the meantime I have been checking out reviews, mainly on Amazon. I am a little concerned that there has been more than one report of the gas bottle leaking at the connection and the whole grill bursting into flames. In fact there is a photo within the reviews showing this actually happening.
This has put me off wanting to use it. Has anyone else got one of these grills, the type which the gas canister screws on underneath, and have there been any issues with the connection leaking?
I haven't but we do have a Campingaz Twister stove which uses the same cartridges and connection system. Never had any problem with it. As with all portable gas stuff you need to make sure that you've connected it accurately.
I've got a lantern that uses same cartridge. As pointed out, ensure locking ring is in place. I'm guessing the flare ups have been caused by failure to locate cartridge properly.
Thanks for the reassurances. Had it just been one report of a flare up I wouldn't have worried too much but I think there are 3 or 4 which made me wonder if there was a design fault. One would hope that it is made in such a way that the canister cannot be fitted wrongly but I will check it out when I eventually get it.
I was a little concerned about cremating myself but I think I have been reassured. The grill arrived today and seems pretty good but no gas of course so I can't try it out yet. Nice bit of kit though.
The Campingaz Twister system was aimed at lightweight campers who tend to be experienced and careful in connecting gas cans correctly.
The Campingaz Party Grill is aimed at beginner campers and picnickers, they are more likely to misconnect gas cans and suffer the consequences.
The choice by Campingaz to have stoves manufactured in China has led to a number of quality issues especially on the new Xcelerate stove system. What should have been a premium product seems to have become a liability. I am not sure if this issue is relevant with the Campingaz Party Grill.
