I have not read the entire thread, however, I bought a pair of inexpensive ones 3-section extendable ones with twist lock mechanism from GO.
I normally use just one, and found it to be useful for the following reasons:
1. It helps my dodgy knee when walking downhill
2. I can use it to test the depth of a puddle prior to walking into it (the dog usually walks around them)
3. I can use it to guide the dog away from plants that he may want to eat
If I were to get another pair, I would spend more to get the ones that could fold down shorter and could fit inside my rucksack.
I had an embarrassing moment when I tried to board the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway when the platform was packed with people and found myself getting stuck due to the pole sticking out of the rucksack, DOH!!!
