Hi
Just splashed out on a wonderbag to keep food hot for a long time. Can't wait to try it but would appreciate hints and tips from anyone else who uses one!

I would be amazed if the wonderbag can be of any use, apart from generating revenue for the seller.

During the war my mother used a hay box. It comprised a teachest full of hay. A casserole pot with meat,vegetables and liquid, was placed in the centre of the box. The hay was moistened and the box closed.
She did this before going to bed. By the following evening the meal was piping hot and ready to eat.

The wonderbag seems to be on the same principle

If you heat food & you can retain that heat then it will stay hot & continue to cook. No different from a Thermos Flask. The principle is sound but insulation needs to be good enough to prevent any heat loss.

Hi mitzi, I have a wonder bag too! Picked mine up from charity shop couple of months ago but haven't tried it out yet! Did you get a book with yours? I didn't, but I've found some reciepes online. I'm hoping to use it for when we camp off grid this summer but want to try it out at home first otherwise I'll have 3 very hungry grumpy people to deal with! Happy to swap notes with you as I try it out!

Hi All, thanks for your comments.   I'll post an update once I receive it to say how it goes.

Poppy.   I haven't received mine yet but I notice the wonderbag site has the recipe book available to view. I think it could work well camping, when gas stove space is limited - keeping the rice hot whilst doing the main for example. Maybe good as a way of taking a hot meal from home for the first night of a camping trip.   I'd probably use it for those situations to keep food hot for an hour or two, rather than hours and hours - just to be on safe side.

Would be delighted to share any recipes or tips with you when I try it!

Don't be such a cynic. I use my wonderbag most weeks and as the name says it is wonderful.

As long as the pan of food is bubbling hot when you put it in, then it will cook. With no movement of the ingredients veg holds together much better and it goes deliciously soft and takes on all the flavours. I always pop my pan back on the hob to make sure it is hot before serving and it is bubbling again in less than a minute. often in 10-20 seconds and that is after being in the bag for 6 hours

Thanks for the info purplebean - does it make much difference what kind of pans are used in the bag? - wondering if my stainless pans would work or if it needs something heavier to help retain the heat.

I have friends who have a Wonderbag and they love it. They cook some cubed meat and veg after breakfast, put it in the Wonderbag and by lunchtime they have a stew.

The only downside is the amount of space it takes up.
