Looking for a bit of advice from you good folks.
I have a Bailey Senator Indiana Series 5 that I am fitting a Powrtouch mover to. The mechanicals are all in place, no problem, but when I came to wire in the control box, I have found a problem. Advice is to wire into storage box by the battery box, but the wires from the OS motor are too short to reach. I can use a front locker, but the battery wires are then too short. Instructions say not to extend or shorten the cables. Wondered where people have fitted the control box and got round the wiring shortage.
Appreciate any advice

Mount the box in any convenient position where it wont get bashed and where there are no restrictions to the antenna.
A nice dry spot inside the caravan not in the box itself.

The only things to avoid really it not next to the fridge and cooker which may interfere with the signals. Anywhere else is fine.

Agree with the above. Mine is located below the front bench seating near the front of the van, where its out of the way. It was fitted by the local powrtouch engineer.
Never had any issues.

Thank you all for the replies. Mounting the control box is not a problem as I can find places where it will be easily fitted, within the lengths of the existing cables. However, my battery box is at the rear part of the caravan and the cables from the battery will not then reach the control box. Powrtouch state that the battery cables should not be lengthened. Will it be OK to extend the cables from the motors (by the same ammount on both sides) so they will reach the control box.
Thanks

The cables supplied are plenty long enough for all vans you must be doing something wrong i'm sure.
I have fitted hundreds of Powertouch movers and always had excess wire left over that can be coiled up.
Ive seen several vans that have had wires lengthened and shortened to no ill effect but it does invalidate the warranty.

Is this a 2nd hand mover which has had the cables cut.

The cables to each motor should be the same length as each other otherwise voltage drop will cause a different speed for each motor and it won't go in a straight line.

Overall cable length should not be too long otherwise voltage drop will limit the power from the motors and possibly cause them to overheat.

You could do with knowing how long the cables should be if anyone knows.

Thanks again for the thoughts. The dilema is that the battery box is 2.9 metres from the mover location. As I see it, I have two choices,
One to resite the mover behind the wheels to reduce the distance, but that will entail moving the spare wheel carrier as well.
Two is to lengthen the cables from the mover so that they will reach the under bed storage box adjacent to the battery location.

Hi Gearbox,

on my series 5 Indiana, now long gone, the control box was fitted under the fixed bed just inboard of the battery box & just behind the wheel arch.

Hope this helps

When I had our Bailey I used longer cables from battery to control box with no problems.Had the van 4 years and performed fine in all that time.It is critical that the cables from the controller to the motors are the same length as each other and not cut.b
On no account can anything electrical be installed in the gas locker.
