We have been advised to remove the filter from our Whale plug and hose assembly as it courses a lot of problems. We were told there is a gadget you can replace it with in order to keep the hose in the water but haven't been able to find one. Does anyone know what it is and where we can find one?
At the moment we have a spoon tied to it!!

Could not tell you how old mine is or my reserve one but I do know I have not removed the filter out of it. Nor ever changed the filter in the van and drink the van water from the tap always. It works for me but I would never tell anyone to do it unless they wanted to try it and see if it works for them. No adults or kids have been killed or hurt by doing this btw.
Some people and there tips can do your head in. Be different if they could actually show their tip works for everyone and not just for them.

No doubt the answer will be to put a lead fishing weight inside the body of the filter lol

I wonder what problems a filter could cause ?
Doubtless someone will say that they are a breeding ground for all sorts of nasty things but I have been using one for at least twenty years with no ill effect.
If the system was designed to have a filter, why not leave it as it is ?

It was stopping our pump from working properly. As soon as we removed it the pump worked perfectly. Personally I can't see why a filter is needed. We don't have one at home! If the rollalongs are steralised regularly I can't see how muck and dirt can get in there.

OK. If you want something to keep the hose at the bottom of the container simply buy a length of 2 inch plastic waste pipe, cut it to the depth of the Aquaroll and slip it over the pump pipe.
Personally, I would then refit a replacement filter because bits of debris do get into the tank.

How did you actually get the filter out?
I took mine to bits one, could not take that bit that drops in the Aquaroll apart for love nor money, came to the conclusion it is a weight with a wire mess inside. Your actual filter if your bothered about one is in the van.

We removed the filter from the base of the pipe then used a screwdriver to flick off the piece of plastic that holds the filter in. The filter consists of a bag of charcoal in a mesh bag.
This particular caravan, Bailey Pegasus, doesn't have another filter.

Maybe i should have explained that this caravan has an internal pump and the water is filtered through a filter on the end of the hose which goes into the Aquaroll then plugs into the caravan. This particular filter has to be changed every 30 days!
Previous caravans we have owned have had an internal filter. I am not sure but I think the pump was on the end of the pipe that goes in the aquaroll.

I didn't think my bailey had an internal filter, then I found it. Took the kitchen drawers out and saw it.
Still don't change it though.
Drunk water from plastic jerry cans for 22 years, never once did we sterilise them. My aqua roll I at least now sterilise once a year. Not sure why but I'm still alive.

Thanks for the answer, however I'm not about to dismantle my lead. It has worked for me for years.
Look on evilbay you might pick up one cheap.

We don't have any drawers in ours. Apparently if you don't change this one regularly it will damage the pump. Which is what happened to us. Had a new pump installed only to find the filter was stopping it working. It was like a very bad air lock that we couldn't get rid of. Took it off and the pump works fine. Our caravan man suggested we take it off! He said most people with this sort do as they are a more bother than they are worth!
