I phoned the helpline and girl said there's a national shortage of lites at the moment. When I quizzed her about stopping production she hedged about as though she knew something but wasn't saying.
I got the story from two gas suppliers in Aberdeen.
There's always a shortage when BBQ /caravan season starts but this may be more than that?
From my own forum I obtained from calor
A decision has been taken to replace the 6kg lite cylinder with another lightweight product which we plan to bring to market in the future (Expected 2018) There will be no new 6kg lites entering the market in 2017 - existing cylinders in the market will continue to be available they are not being withdrawn To minimise customer disruption, weve invested heavily in standard 6s for 2017 so there will be sufficient availability Additional 6kgs will be delivered to make up any shortfall in 6kg lite supplies so you will still have the same stock quantity in store What does this mean for my customer? Customers returning an empty 6kg lite should be offered one in return They should be sold If no 6kg lites are available the customer should be offered a 6kg in return They will be able to exchange for a 6kg lite in future (Subject to availability) Customers with an empty 6kg (Standard) should be offered one in return No Empty OR Plus Cylinder Refill Agreement at £39.99 Customers without an empty cylinder should be sold a 6kg cylinder along with the Cylinder Refill Agreement (CRA) priced at £39.99
I'm guessing they will be going to plastic lightweight cylinders. I'm surprised they did not do that in the first place. Continental gas providers have used plastic cylinders for yrs.
Picked up two standard 6kg cylinders this morning. I got a receipt showing I had returned a "lite" and a promise to supply a new version of the lite when they come to market. Says they will be interchangeable anyway, but I don't trust them.
Apparently the lites are corroding on the inside, hence the demise of the product.
The main dealer here has no idea what material the replacement lightweight will be made from. He says they will lose millions over the issue. Can you guess who will end up paying for this fiasco? Yes, the same punters who paid extra for the privilege of buying the same 6kg of propane in a lighter cylinder.
I have just picked up a full one from the local caravan place, this subject is old news though. From what I understand the lite bottles get dented too easily and are not economical to repair hence they are being discontinued. New ones due in 2018. I'm sure it was Val A who posted a lengthy blurb from Calor (or maybe it wasn't Val!). They are even available in the local tool hire business!
"Next time we are over in France, I will be on the look out for a couple of Le Cube's, you sometimes see them abandoned at the side of the road."
You're obviously going through the rougher end of town.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
LPG supplier Calor has provided some further information about its lightweight gas cylinders.
Calor Lite cylinders have been discontinued but a new lightweight cylinder is in development. The company has confirmed current Calor Lite users will be able to exchange their cylinders for new-style ones when they are released. This will be true even if a Lite cylinder has been exchanged for a standard 6kg gas cylinder in the meantime, as long as the customer has proof of purchase of the original Lite product.
Calor has more information about the programme on its website. If Club members are interested in getting involved in research relating to development of the new lightweight cylinder they are asked to contact Calor by email at caravaninsight at calor.co.uk."
Hi Grandad Kenny, thanks for the advice you gave us some months ago, I just wanted to know if you book your ferry in advance and is it cheaper or not as it's winter
