Hi, when abroad, we will usually try for a campsite that has an on-pitch drain for grey water.

I've tried a huge unwieldy length of that ribbed flexible grey hose and it is too rigid to work.

I've tried using an old length of 1/2" water hose and that didn't work either.

What solutions are people using? Does 1" or 3/4" lay-flat hose work?

You need to find a way to let air into a long length of pipe otherwise it will take ages to drain. An open ended plumbing joint with the open end sticking up will do the trick. If necessary, a short length of pipe on the open end will stop leaks.

I always carried sections of 3” diam. black plastic household drain pipe (3 x 6ft and 2 x 3ft) each with a push fit coupling at one end, together with a couple of loose “elbows”.

Simply push the flexible pipe through the sections of rigid pipe which will prevent the hose curling up and also enable you support it in places to provide a gentle slope to the drain. It worked for me!

The black drain pipe weighs virtually nothing at all and I used to store it under the fixed bed for easy access.
