looking to buy a satnav to use whilst towing - which is your preferred one. Our current one is TomTom but I'm not sure that I'm very impressed at their caravan/truck one.

I have a Garmin good points- large 7 inch screen, easy removable from docking/charging mount. bad points- routing isn't as good as my old Tom Tom.
I had a TomTom Start 60 and purchased the camper map, doing it that way is a cheaper alternate but the map doesnt come with a life time update
God help you if it's worse than tomtom. Ours is bloody useless with its 'clever' short cuts I wouldn't use in our VW UP! Never mind Motorhome.
We now mostly ignore the sat 'nav' we head from city to city on the signposts and have an over view on Google Maps so always know exactly where we are, it's stress free, the signposts are never wrong.
The Tom Tom is a good speedometer with speed warnings though.
I used a basic "Tomtom" Satnav for years whilst towing the caravan abroad, but instead of just entering a "Take me to - " destination, I always sat down with a good map prior to my planned journey to the next site and simply plotted “Way points” into the SatNav according to my preferred route.
In other words, I told the Satnav which way to take me, not the other way round!
The SatNav simply directed me from one “way point” to the next all the way to my intended destination.
No more surprises, it just simply followed the route I had plotted into it from the map before setting off!

------------- Now retired from active caravanning. - really miss it!
Hi there,I use co pilot phone app for caravans,You can input your unit measurements and also your road preferences. You download the maps so no need for a net connection .
I also have the CoPilot app on my phone, and I've never had a complaint. The latest update now tells you about traffic delays ahead and you can easily set up a divert if you know you are coming to a queue.
