I know this has been asked before but the thread I read was a few years old and I want to check the information is still the same;

If I buy, or get free a calor butane cannister, will I be able to exchange it for a full one at places like Go Outdoors?

Also are there older models around that suppliers won't accept? I've seen one one eBay that looks like it's been dug up from somewhere.
I know there's no point getting a sparking shiny new one because the next time it's swapped it could be tatty looking, but I assume stockist have a responsibility to check them before they let them out again. There's no guarantee of that when buying second hand or getting from Freegle etc.

Thanks

Alison

Should be OK as long as it's a genuine Calor cylinder (some sellers* might be under the impression that "calor" includes cylinders from other suppliers like those of the Flogas group!)

I'm sure they're all carefully checked at the filling plant before refilling.

Don't forget though, you can only exchange a cylinder for one within the same group (list here)

*Technically, they shouldn't be "sold" as they "remain the property of and can only be refilled by Calor"

Just bought a 3.9kg Calor Gas Propane cylinder on Ebay for £5 and exchanged it for a full one for £16 at a local caravan shop.

Check the Ebay photo of the cylinder that it is Calor Gas and that you want either propane or butane. Also check it is in a good condition.

You will most likely have to collect and pay cash, before paying your cash check that the cylinder is the one in the photo and is undamaged.

Your objective is to buy cheap so don't get involved in an Ebay bidding war.

Remember to include the value of a regulator, hose and clips in your project, you may even need a spanner. Some regulators are designed to be finger tightened and not require a spanner.

Enjoy the liveliness of the syntax.
