I have acquired a Brenderup trailer but the cargo chafes when towing.How do others get over this problem? I am considering lining it but what with (weight is a factor)
Even carefully packed to stop movement the thin bags that most manufacturers supply wear through all to easily.

I've never owned a camping trailer but we had a similar problem with the stuff stashed in the main, under-bed locker in one of the MHs we had(..to be fair, it was only really the bags holding the camp-kitchen-table thing that chaffed through, all else was just slight rubbing..but it was probably down to my clumsy packing, if I'm honest.
(It was all too easy to think, because it was "contained", it was okay..when it wasn't.)

I suppose you could wrap chosen stuff in something like an old blanket?..but I should imagine that'd be a pain if it got wet/dirty/smelly?

Can you fit some lashing rings low down inside the trailer, so as to enable you to ratchet-strap the stuff "downwards"?

Edit: what about using some cheap,foam roll mats?(either to line the sides or just to use between stuff?)

I've just remembered, it's what I used to line the load areas of our MHs..

Thank you Pepe, I had tried a cargo net to keep stuff in place but still had new kit rubbed through giving that "shabby chic" look to new kit!
Lining seems to be the way to go but how to fix it will take some thinking about. It will have to be renewable so good hold without needing to take a scraper to it when it needs changing.

Hi again.
Would it really need to be "fastened" into place?..as long as it was cut to the correct lengths, couldn't it just be slid in prior o tloading?(the stuff will hold it in place).
..or if you really want to fasten it, maybe just a good run of gaffa tape along it's upper edge?..and some short patches of double sided carpet tape in the centre areas?

(that's assuming gaffa and carpet tape will stick to "foam" roll mats?)

The elasticated cargo nets won't tether "hard" stuff down anywhere near enough to stop it from chattering..

Our Brenderup has some eyelit holes for attaching straps in it.

However we use a ribbed rubber mat (left over from sound insulating our joists & floor boards) which we put our gas bottle on as it really should not move and is easy to squash other things in the trailer.

As to the loading.... I am not qualified to do this only to pass items to Mr F.

Hi, when we tent camped with the trailer, we used to pack everything in as tightly as possible. We wrapped things in old blankets, bubble wrap and lay an old carpet offcut in the bottom and up the sides. This method worked well for us and touch wood, never had any mishaps with things rubbing through. Like frazzle, I pass to George to pack as he is the master packer!! Out trailer was an Anssems with a hard top so this made things a lttle easier.

Thank you both Frazzle and George and Mildred There is not enough room to waste on packing material what worries me is the modern tent material inside the abraded bag will be the next thing to wear through!!!

Neoprene foam pads http://www.carinsulation.co.uk/product/5m-roll-6mm-self-adhesive-closed-cel........ or cheap carpet tiles or samples . The neoprene worked lining a metal trailer front box , can be found cheaper with a bit of searching

I have a Brenderup trailer that is used for carrying a large amount of fishing equipment for 3 of us. I use 3 cargo ratchet straps to secure all the gear, nothing moves.

Thank you Enoch, but I assume most of your kit is in seat boxes or similar.If you are running a 1150s could you tell me what your tyre pressures are please I think they should be in the mid to low 30's

Hi; running a 1250s and tyre pressures are 36psi. We carry bivvies (fishing tents),bed chairs, tackle bags, additional seating sleeping bags, clothing and all other equipment for up to 4 anglers. All the gear is packed and then the straps puled down tight with no movement at all. We travel to various venues in the UK and to France.

When I worked on marquees we used to put old towel or blanket over the pvc to stop the ropes and straps rubbing it and to protect it against the metal work or trailer floor. Never had any problems in 10yrs. We used to wash the cladding occasionally or bin it and start again.Plenty in the charity shops!

Thanks Enoch and thanks Phil I have an old breathable groundsheet that after washing will be used as a liner and I will use it in conjunction with the cargo net (I have ratchet straps but they are hiding somewhere in my new shed /garage replacement.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions, it might be a while before our next outing as we are expecting Bob The Builder to be here putting in foundations. I will let you know if it improves the cargo condition.

Hi, long time since my last post on here.

We use a trailer. We lined the trailer with spare pond liner, this being very heavy duty stuff. Then the load is held down/together by ratchet straps, both length and width wise. Nothing moves at all and we have never had any chaffing. The ratchets being metal we simply wrap in a bit of cloth.

The straps were simply tied to fixing hooks I screwed into the base of the trailer.

Hi Cellar just repacked my trailer for the up and coming August Bank holiday. We have a Brenderup 1150s and we line the sides with the interlocking camping floor squares you can buy at the Range or similar places. You can buy a pack with 6 squares (Rolson or cheaper version) from Halfords too, it then gets used as flooring in the tent porch. Does the job your after. I have also thought of ply lining but as you say, increases the weight as already I've extended the side and added hard lid and gallery rails (booking into local weigh bridge this weekend to check loaded weight of trailer). Regards the tyre pressures I'm running on 35 psi and is smooth with minimal bounce (recommendedby pressure by Brenderup 1150s on standard 13" fitted)
