Hello, my name is Adam,
I am currently in year 13 at School and I am studying product design at A-level. I am required to resolve a modern issue that i have found, the issue I found is that there are currently no small enough camping sinks, I wish to create and develop a camping sink that allows for a lightweight transport but maximum efficiency, to do this I require advice and feedback from a knowledgeable professional. I was wondering what advice you would have for me.

Many thanks, Adam.

Hi Adam, I'm sorry but there are loads of camping sinks out there. It's hard to see how you're going to come up with an idea that hasn't been tried. Here's the results of a quick google click here. Have a look at those and see if you can think of a way of improving them maybe. Good luck with your course.

No small camping sinks? I think you need to do more homework.

Would you like a small sink just big enough to wash your hands? or a size big enough for a family worth of dishes and plates or something inbetween?

Would you like a draining board attached to the sink or a removeable one?

Or would you prefer a hob to be attached to the sink? If so how many burners?

Simple foldout legs or a more sturdy frame, what about shelves??

The list goes on. Curious to know what you have though of developing that is not already out there.

Hi Adam,

I realise you are undertaking a school project and not designing for manufacture, so think previous posters have been a bit harsh in their responses to your respectful, polite and perfectly reasonable question.

However, if your topic criteria is to design something which might genuinely meet a gap in the market, I have to agree that there is already no shortage of small sinks/basins for camping (whether for washing pots, self, or both). From a washing-up bowl (of which there is every shape and size, including collapsible models), to a full-blown stainless steel jobbie, they really are already out there, complete with stands, drainers, you name it.

Good luck with your course and I hope you don't see this as a setback, but more of a learning curve. If it was easy, designing new products, we'd all be doing it!

If you can think of any other camping-related products which might be improved upon, do please come back and post again, and most of us will try to give constructive (and encouraging) feedback.
