we have just purchased a dometic 3 way fridge so we can use it on gas when on site, but now have a worry concerning the gas fumes when in use in our conway trailer tent. only had a caravan before and that had a flue vent to the outside, any advice or tips would be appreciated please
I think you've answered your own question regarding the Carbon Monoxide gas fumes. That's exactly the reason for needing a flue for the appliance as you may as well just light a barbecue in the tent and hope for the best.
Hi TonyKaren.
I have a 3 way fridge and in the past have used it in our tent,on gas, but have not had a sewn in groundsheet so plenty of ventilation. The tent I have now has sewn in groundsheet so I don't use the fridge on gas ! if I needed to use it on gas I would put it in the tent porch which does have plenty of ventilation.
If it's burning correctly with a nice, clean, blue flame you'll be fine. It's a similar CO risk to a candle, but do get a CO alarm. For proof, run the fridge in the loo or other small room at home with the CO alarm in there and doors and windows shut.
Charcoal barbecues, just to avoid confusion, are another matter. They are all about incomplete combustion and produce massive amounts of CO.

If you intend using the fridge on gas in your TT awning you'll be fine, since there's no SIG and plenty of ventilation. Just run the hose under the mudflaps and keep your gas bottle outside, in the shade or covered.

I think the OP is more concerned with the CO hazard than propane/butane fumes.
thanks for all the advice and tips, we don't have a sewn in groundsheet we didn't notice the kitchen area has a zipped window/vent and the bottle has its own box outside, we will be getting a c o alarm before we go once again many thanks
We used our three way in our TT for years. Awning had no sewn in ground sheet and we always placed the fridge on a outside wall i.e not close to the sleeping area. Never had any problems even with thoe camping gas bottle inside.
I seem to recall a couple of years ago on these pages of talk of these CO alarms (or some of them at least?) being "not much better than useless", in the environs of a cold damp tent. Something about caveats of "Not suitable for outdoor use" and/or "Not to be used in damp conditions" type labels.
Now, I must stress, this isn't something I have looked into, as it doesn't affect us, but I didn't want anyone just going out and buying the first CO Monitor they find, expecting it (and relying on it!) to work perfectly in a tent.
I'd suggest a bit of research first.
1) I'll leave it with yer!
2) Don't shoot the messenger!
3) Apologies if the above is totally inaccurate.
4) Fore-warned is fore-armed, as they say!
5) Posted with best intentions!
