I have just dug out my portable fridge to get ready for a few days away, and it has a bad smell inside. I stupidly left something in there by mistake the last time I used it and it has rotted, leaving this aroma behind. Can anyone help with suggestions on how to get rid of it?
Vinegar. Make a solution of vinegar and Water to clean the fridge then leave a cup of vinegar in the fridge.
Baking soda also absorbs the smell.

Thanks, Fiona W, the vinegar/water mix got rid of the smell, I will make sure when I store the fridge next time to leave the door open so I make sure this doesn't happen again.
Many thanks once again,
Regards, Dave.

If you want to store a Fridge or keep smells away put some larger lumps of charcoal in a container we use this in the trade to get rid of bad odours in fridge freezer’s when we have go out to a service call to a fridge with a bad odour in it we give it a quick wipe with antibac and leave a Carbon Filter block on the shelf and that is just compressed charcoal , on a lot of the upmarket fridge freezers they have built in charcoal filter's that you change once a year but a lot cheaper to use charcoal that you buy for a BBQ

Anything with a smell will linger in a fridge as it normally evaporates away but a fridge is a closed and cool so the damp keeps the smell around for longer, even kitchen work surface cleaning products will leave a smell.

Re BBQ charcoal, does it matter if its briquette or lumpwood?
