Last couple of times we've been away within a couple of hours of going to bed I've done something to my back and had to make an emergency trip to the nearest pharmacy for emergency pain killers and deep heat. Normally I sleep on a double air bed.

After it happened to me on Thursday night I had a brainwave. A quick trip to the nearest go outdoors and I bought another double air bed. Just the cheapest one they had. It was a bit narrower than my current cheap air bed but I put it on top of my current air bed, to give me a basically deep air bed but without paying out the extra for one. I have never been so comfortable in my life. No more back problem. So easy to get out of and stand up and no ending up with such a soft bed that I'm on the floor after a few nights.

Personally, I'd adopt the same mantra to camping beds as you show in your sig, regarding cakes!

Glad it worked out well for you on this occasion, and long may that continue of course, but there's no getting away from the fact that you are still relying on airbeds!

Now, I'm far from an expert on these things, as I got sucked into the hype regarding camp beds and SIM's... which turned out to be a very wise move on my part, so no regrets here... but there still seems to be a fair amount of negativity regarding airbeds, if these pages are anything to go by.

Maybe it's time to up the ante, and invest in a more supportive set up, before your back goes permanently?

As a spina bifida occulta sufferer I can recommend the Decathlon Quechua air 70 with either a sim or air mat on top. You have sprung slats like a real bed, it is solid unlike an airbed and you can put your preferred sim or air mat on top. It also packs up smaller than a camp bed or carp bed.

My back is permanently sore. This has helped enormously. I only wish it was backpackable.

We clip ours together for a double and put a kampa bliss airmat on top.

I really want one of these but I would have to leave something else at home to fit one in

It is the same size as a sim when in the bag.
