I have reached that age [70] where camping is still great fun but I do like my comforts especially to get a good night sleep. Though I am quite comfortable on my SIM - getting up from ground level was a real problem worse at 2 am for my middle of the night piddle.

I invested in a Outfitter XXL camping cot. Ordered it on "Fleabay" USA and it arrived today [North of Scotland] after a 9 day order. Reckon that is very good service. Anyway - set it up as soon as it was unpacked- tested it out. Very very good indeed. I am a big guy at 18 stone 5'11" with it being 84" long 40" wide and 19" high is just perfect for me with plenty of space for a large pillow too. With postage/customs £160 - well worth it for a good sleep. Off to France tenting it next year for couple of months.

Good for you. I like to hear about a 'daring purchase' from abroad. So many people these days get taken for a ride in their own country, I am not sure that I would be that daring. You sound very happy and satisfied. I would try it out at home for a few nights, get the feel of things.

As I am a restless sleeper - turning from one side to the other I needed plenty of space to turn. The camp beds/cots from Uk suppliers all seemed to be very narrow. I did search for Uk suppliers of the Outfitter Xxl cot none available- as Americans always do large /big stuff bought it on Fleabay. Perhaps pricey - but if I get many good sleeps it's well worth it. I did test it again at home - it's a bit hard. So used my SIM - works a treat. Good thing about it is - so much easier getting up as it 19" high- can put my socks on easier too.

I am a solo camper - and use a 3m diameter Soulpad Bell tent. The cot takes up all of one side - but that's fine.
