Hi, I've been given an electric cool bag that is made for use in a caravan / campervan which has a 12 v 2 pin plug on it, but I would like to be able to use with ehu.
I've been told I would need to re-wire it to a cigarette lighter socket plug & then use a converter.
However, I can't see how it would be possible to re-wire it & have to admit I don't fancy trying it anyway!
Does anyone know if there is such a thing out there that I could plug the the 2 pin plug into which has a cigarette lighter connection thingy the other end, so that I could then plug that into a converter???
Fingers crossed & thank you in advance of any help with this.
If you have a tent-specific EHU lead* (with built-in MCB and RCD on the socket board) you might be able to use something like this transformer to give you a 12v dc supply. You'd still need a way to connect the coolbag 12v lead to the transformer 12v output, though!
Naver.
Unfortunately this is the wrong way round. I need to be able to plug the 2 pin plug into it & the other end needs to be the bit you plug into a cigarette lighter thing in the car.
If you can wire a regular domestic plug, then fitting a cigarette lighter type plug will be a doddle, most have screw terminals so no soldering is required.
In fact some accessory shops sell cigarette type plugs that have a short trailing cable, just a case then of using a chocolate block to make the connection, not very pretty but will do the job if you are not into wiring up a plug.
Firstly can the cable from your coolbox be unplugged at the coolbox end? If it can then problem solved. You can buy a new coolbox cable with cigar lighter plug. It’s a standard item.
Otherwise proceed as suggested by Francais. Buy a cigar lighter plug wired to a length of twin cable. You also need a bit of connector strip. Cut off 2 off the connectors to use. Then cut & bare the wires on both ends of cables & connect up using connector strip. Look carefully at the twin cable. One of the cables has a line running along it. When you connect the 2 ensure the cables with the lines on are connected together.
