I did the sums once ( as I did not want think I was using more electric than I had paid for ) and the amount charged for electric more than covers having a heater on 1KW all night on a thermostat setting...so it actually goes on and off, rather than being on continually.
Fan heaters are noisy though. And the halogen heaters you get the light...and if you want it on all night, the light might be disturbing. We're trying a convector heater next time on timer for cooler nights.
It's one of those controversial topics...but, personally, I could not camp if I could not have my EHU and heater. The camping experience doesn't have to be compromised just because you take a couple of home comforts...although we would not take t.v, dvd, laptops....other people do and that is their perogative....and if it adds to the comfort and enjoyment of the family holiday then so be it. Each to his own. We couldn't afford to stay in b&bs or hotels and for us camping is as much about economics as it is about fun...at the end of the day camping with a family is damn hard work at times...especially for the mothers...a warm cosy nights sleep and waking up to an overall warm tent is extremely high value to me personally !
