Hi, I've just noticed halfords cool box is now £85 from £130. Is this a good price?

I bought something earlier in the year that was £100 and when I went to pick it up it was then marked up at £200! (Kids cycle trailer) So just checking with you all if you've seen it cheaper than £85

I guess you meen electric and not passive, probably better of buying one of the Aldi/Lidl ones when they come along, usually around £40.

We don't use a cool box for camping, due to only camping in Southern Europe, so use a compressor type portable fridge.

These cool boxes are not as good as they seem - they utilise a fan to achieve the cooling. This will drive you nuts at night, but switching it off then means it takes hours the following day to cool down again.

Also check the spec for how far below ambient it will cool - this is critical if you plan to use abroad..

Being 12v they require a transformer, and we found the heat from this is very attractive to ants (assuming the set up is in the awning.

We sold ours after a season and also have a silent portable fridge now.

We have the Halfords one and it is brilliant. Even if it is not plugged there is till ice in it after 3 days and that is in the heat in France.

I've just bought the 40 litre one and used it over the weekend in our camper van. (twas hot)
Ran it all day on 12 volt and switched it off at sunset, we have a solar panel and we're off grid

I never saw the thermometer I put in go above 8 deg, only thing I can add is we put a frozen 1.5 litre milk container in to help it along.

Was looking at compressor fridges but the prices were making my eyes water, 85 quid well spent in my eyes.

They run off 12 volt and mains electric without the need of a separate transformer.

Yep Johnnie Boy, the Aldi unit is also 12v and mains electric.

We got lucky with our Waeco C25 back in 2009, at £150 brand new, although I did have to pay £20 shipping cost.

On the main campsite for a fortnight the CF25 did come to be a compromise at just 23lt.

So in 2013 we added the Mobicool C40 to our kit list, at the time just £139 inc delivery from Obelink.

I can now quite honestly say that we have reached our camping fridge nirvana, although I still covet the Mobicool FR40!

Thing is I already have a Kampa coolbox which is too small hence the forty litre Halfords one which has good reviews.

I also have a 3 way fridge in the caravan so buying another fridge is not really necessary, just for a day / weekend camper van me thinks.
