Can anyone recommend a solar panel please? We were thinking of one around 20 - 40 watts. Would that be enough mainly for keeping the battery topped up and things like a laptop, tablet and phone? What about TV would we be able to run that from it? We have a gennie for more powerful things like a hair dryer.

We have a 13-watt brief case solar panel which came as a freebie with our 2012 caravan. Never found a use for it and it sits in a cupboard just waiting........ For what?

A 150w folding panel would be better, no problem for around 15 nights, 3 - 4hrs TV a night and all the caravan 12v equipment, We a have a round (cigar lighter type) socket and plug in a USB adaptor for phones, watches etc, and also a 150w inverter to charge my shaver and laptop.

I have one exactly the same still in the original box just sitting in the cupboard which also has the control box but only ever used it once as we now always go on electric hook ups mainly for medical purposes.

For our freebie solar panel, there was a flying lead in the bunk, and which had a 'plug-and-play' lead to ensure correct polarity. When cleaning in the bunk, this lead happened to brush against the copper gas supply pipe for the water heater, and a flash occurred. One side of the plug was bare metal, and this connector was on the positive side of the circuit. I simply cut off this plug, wired in two connectors of a terminal strip, and cable clipped the lead to the van floor.
Bertie.
