Saw a camping fridge which the owner said ran off gas canisters last week.
When I returned to the site to have a closer look, the other campers had left.
Anyone know this camping fridge?.

In this modern age I would not entertain a Gas (3 Way) fridge, portable compressor fridge is the way to go IMHO.
For the last ten years we have been using a Waeco CF25, and it's been a little belter, it mostly just sits in the boot of the car, and due to the Waeco's built in battery protection, the is no chance of it draining the car battery.

I agree That's the case when on EHU (or if you can afford one of the higher spec models to run on 12V when travelling in the car) but when on a non-EHU pitch, it's either a 3-way fridge or a passive coolbox.
I can see why it might be tempting to use one of these for a short-stay and use the canisters but the spec states it'll use one a day, so if you're going for a couple of weeks I don't suppose there's much advantage - either price or volume - in opting for one of these over a standard 3-way?
Incidentally, we've had a few 3-way fridges over the years and they all were poor when operated on 12v. One even melted the plug in the 12v socket! Our Mobicool FR40 is leagues ahead, but no good whatsoever if you're on a non-EHU pitch.

We use the Dometic ACX40G, I can confirm its about a can a day, a little less if overnight temps allow you to turn off overnight. I buy the canisters in bulk and cost wise it works out at somewhere between using propane and campingaz. Some trips I take suitcase style stoves with me, so don't have the need for a large gas bottle and don't normally use Ehu unless I'm away in excess of a week or the winter months. Last year in France on Ehu I kept our fridge in the awning, outside temp in porch was 32c and the fridge held at 0c, it easily matches that when running on gas. If I ever need to, I would consider a damp towel draped over the top, but I haven't needed it yet.

The current model is the Dometic ACX40G. If you’re after a second hand one, look for a Dometic Combicool RC1205GC.
I have one of these and while it works well in normal temperatures, it struggles to get cold enough in the recent heatwave.
