We are trying to get a roof box and the bits - after our first camping trip was marginally hampered by a lack of space in our humble Honda Civic.
I have found a roof bar kit from Thule which, as a kit for the Civic, comes in at £99. I can get the Paddy Hopkirk kit for £60. Has anybody any advice on the Paddy Hopkirk ones. One dealer said he wouldn't touch them as they were unreliable - is that true or is he just trying to sell me more expensive gear.
ALso, roof boxes: I saw the Hapro Roady 320 litre at £89, which looks good but am also tempted by the Karrite Contour 380 at £129. Any advice, anybody? The Honda has a small roof so at 1m 50 cms the Karrite would just fit.
the guy from thule told me they make the roobars for all the major makes under license as original equipment as well as the thule brand so i guess they know a bit about it also they are very helpful if you have any questions and you only need to buy the bars themselves once if you change your car just get a new set of feet to go with the new car
I`m thinking of getting a Paddy Hopkirk roof-rack for my Mk1 MR2. I`ve had a couple of people recommend them,(well, the roof bars actually) so I`m hoping all will be well.
Yep my Randell&Hopkirk bars seem to of managed the job . Motorway speeds of 115mph and they never moved a gnats whisker. Dam bloody good paint protection on them aswell.
Well, we went with the Paddy's (and went to Ireland with them, funny enough) and all was well. Bought the Autoplas previously mentioned and the bars from Dorridge Auto Spares on the web (www.dorridgeauto.co.uk - very good service and v. helpful) £154.97 the lot delivered.
WE GOT A BIKE RACK/ TOP BOX AND ROOF BARS OFF THAT AUCTION SITE ON LINE THAT KEEPS YOU AWAKE TILL THE EARLY HOURS IN THE MORNING OF DIFFERENT PEOPLE FOR LESS THAN 100 QUID ALL BRAND NEW
I have always used Paddy Hopkirk roofbars, no problem at all, they are very strong and robust ! and a lot cheaper than a lot of the others, which i think you are just paying for the name in my opinion .

Try looking in your local Ikea. We purchased roof bars there some years ago for a car with roof rails at a great price. They also do roof bars for gutterless cars too.
