Hi All,

Total newbie here.

I am hoping to take my wife and two little girls camping this summer in France and I could do with some advice on what I need (and equally what I don't need) to take with me.

My wife, somewhat sceptically, doesn't believe that the trip is going to be much fun. (I think she feels that she is going to miss the "home comforts"). However I am really looking forward to it ... as are the kids. As a result I would really like to give her as comfortable sleeping experience as it is possible to get in a tent and when searching the web I found some info about rising air beds (see: http://www.qksrv.net/click-1428744-10297635?URL=http://www.wildday.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=2237&AID=10297635&PID=1428744)

Are these any good? Can anyone give me the benefit of their experience with these "double layer" beds? These look like they can be blown up by 12v pumps as well if required....

Many Thanks for all advice.

Hi & welcome

Can't help you with these though I will be interested in any replies as I've been looking at ones like this on Ebay.

Our first camping trip in a tent was to France & my other half & kids loved it. Have been going back every year since. I'm sure you'll all have a wonderful time.

Hi Kingfisher, we have a normal Coleman double airbed where the two sides blow up independently and have been extremely pleased with it, best airbed we've ever had.  Can't comment on the double height ones as our tent has sloping sides and won't allow for the height of them.  A lot of people on here have said how good the double height ones are.

Thanks Tessa and Kazx - I am hoping to put it inside an Outwell Sun Valley 6 tent which we both saw and thought was good and cover it with a duvet.

The other essential bits of kit I think I need to get are:

  • Combicool - to keep food fresh in car and in tent
  • Little 2 ring gas cooker
  • Camping table and chairs - (not sure what type to get here)
  • Some form of lighting - perhaps gas (not sure what works)
  • A plastic underlay sheet to go under the tent.

Am I missing any more essentials?

Best Wishes to all.

Can recommend high rise airbeds, they are really comfy.  We bought our tent around the size of the airbed!!  Had to have one with good height to allow for it.
