I'm going camping in September and looking to buy a tarpaulin incase it rains. Can someone recommend a good tarpaulin to use for cooking under ?

I'm 6,2ft so something that i'll be able to stand under whilst cooking would be great.

The height of your tarp will depend on your poles. Not all tarps are supplied with poles but Amazon and eBay supply cheap Chinese tarps with poles for about 30 quid.You may need longer poles and more guylines. Vango king poles are a good buy and are over 6 ft.
If you want quality, be prepared to pay more for a DD tarp or a tatonka tarp..
As for size it all depends how you want to use it. With a small tent, I have a wee chinese tarp. For shade and setting up on it's own I have a 4m x 4m DD tarp. For my Alaska I have an 8m x 2m as an extension.It is heavy canvas however.
Avoid the plastic type builders tarps. Here are a few from amazon:

The only one I can recommend is the DD tarp and the vango poles. I have had cheap Chinese tarps and lidl tarps and they have been good but it is a lottery. As a personal preference I prefer the square shaped tarps. I have tried a few wing shaped ones and they have not suited my purposes.
There are some excellent tarp threads on here but sadly the photo bucket debacle denuded them of many pics. If you would like pics I can post some of my different tarps in action.

Quechua tarps (from Decathlon) are reasonable quality and price and include poles (you can always get some more King poles if you want a different configuration, or taller set up):

I had forgotten about the Quechua ones.Very good as well. Never had anything bad from Decathlon.

Not cheap but good quality, with 2 tall 25mm steel poles

I'll second the Hypercamp tarp but gosh the price has gone up something chronic since we bought ours...
They have got some cheaper ones, and I must say their quality is usually very good.

Looking into a tarp ourselves. More for shade when using our Outwell Polycotton Newgate 3.

I have my eye on the Tatonka 2.85 x 4m polycotton. Wanted to see how big it is folded up before I commit. Anybody have any thoughts on the polycotton tarps by Tatonka?

Looked at their poles that fold into themselves and found ESVO do the same/similar type for €18 plus postage for the 1.8m. Arrived today and they look OK and the colour is a nice yellow passivated colour.

Those poles are quite a jigsaw but fortunate my better arf was to hand!
