I am taking my son camping in The Lakes at the end of the month. We will be taking our small tent (Eurohike Avon DLX 3 Man Tent) as there will only be the two of us on a weekend break.
As we all know the weather in The Lakes can be on the wet side!..so I wanted to ask for recommendations for a tarp that would provide a bit of shelter should it rain.
The last time we ventured out camping we had terrible rain and a tarp would of at least made it easier (and drier) to transfer our gear from the tent to the car!
I can see some tarp Kits online and they all seem to be expensive.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Decathlon are great for 'beginner' tarps: cheap, good quality, poles included and guy lines preattached. Our Decathlon 3 x 3 metre 'Tarp Fresh' still gets plenty of use as it's easier to handle than our swanky 4 x 4m Tatonka and I'm less anxious about damaging it.
We recently bought one from DD Hammocks who were recommended on this forum. They have several different size options. We chose them because the tarps have lots of holes to allow for different permutations. We've only done the simple A-frame config so far, which did us very well in France back in June. It was a bit of a faff to set up at first, but now we have 6 guys made up and attached, it'll be easier next time.
------------- 2019 trips booked so far:
Easter - Red Shoot, New Forest
May - Secret Campsite, Sussex
My vote is for a DD tarp - I have two 3 x 4.5 metre from my tenting days which still get used occasionally with my caravan awning (I prefer to cook outdoors so it can provide shelter from rain, or it can add shade when very sunny and hot).
They are an investment but can be configured in endless ways (check Youtube), and you need to buy uprights.
Before this though I used cheap tarps from places like Aldi and they were fine, though a little loud and rustly in a breeze. Check out my gallery images.
------------- Camping Gear expands so as to fill the space available for its transportation.
If you have a poly tent then a DD tarp. Strong with lots of attachment points.
