Topic: Calor 6kg propane Lite bottles

I recently ran out of gas on my Lite cylinder and went to my local dealer,expecting to be offered a replacement heavy one. To my surprise they said that Calor were still supplying them with these cylinders, but they had none in stock that day. I was told that one could not be ordered as Calor decided what cylinders to supply them with each week.I was then able to get one from a caravan site.
I thought that these cylinders had been withdrawn. I can not find any news from Calor website, other than the notification of the withdrawal of Lite cylinders.
Dies anyone know what is going on here ?

I was told that each one is being checked upon return.
Anything wrong or any damage then that bottle is withdrawn and not repaired nor replaced.

Eventually there will be none.

However I was also told that Calor are planning a new light weight bottle.
Anyone know when???

My dealer has Calor Lite cylinders in stock. When I tried to buy a second one for my van I was told that they could no longer rent them only sell them as replacements. So I have brought a Safefill refillable cylinder instead and will ditch my existing lite when it's empty. At least with the Safefill I can now see how much gas it contains.

I too will go over to Safefill or similar, but why are they so expensive?
I still have two full Calorlites so hopefully they may be a little more reasonable by the time I need one.

Just had 9 nights away on meets off grid, fridge, hot water & cooking usage. Refilled my Safefill cylinder, used just over 6kg and the gas cost was £6.60

, how much is a 6kg Calor lite or steel cylinder????
Morrisons fuel stations with autogas now fill Safefill refillable cylinders.

Around £21 for a replacement (exchange) 6kg calor…

Which is why I'm also considering safe fill once ours is empty...

We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

I holiday in France all the time and have had nothing but aggravation since I changed to Calor Lite a few years ago.
I bought a French Le Cube propane cylinder, then another one. They fit nicely in my gas compartment and replacement gas is cheap as chips - problem solved.
Calor can kiss my ****.

No problem, the pump stops when the cylinder is 80% full, so if you just want to top it up then do so.

I managed to get a Calor lite refill at the Norwich branch of GoOutdoors a couple of months ago. Unfortunately when I connected it to my van, gas was escaping very fast around the brass connection where the hose from the regulator is fitted. I checked I had fitted it correctly, and tried another cylinder I had, which was fine. Returned it to GoOutdoors, who were very good and exchanged it for another one without question. This one worked perfectly. They said they were still getting the refills from Calor, but having read about Safefill on here, I'm interested in that as an alternative as Calor have been promising to sort out the Calor Lite situation for ages now, and have done nothing and kept the whole caravan industry in the dark.
