Hello. We are thinking of getting a full size awning for our 2016 quasar 462 (Highbridge Special badged as Conquest). The spec states the awning rail size as 910cm, the size list on most sales sites state 900cm, and I have physically measured the rail ans I make it 900cm. My dilemma is that the particular awning we have in mind is either 875_900cm or 900_925cm. I would prefer to go for the smaller size not only for cost but also for neatness, but obviously I don't want the awning to be too short.
I was wondering what sort of leeway manufacturers allowed.
Firstly, the difference between 910 cms. to 900 cms. is only 4 inches which equalled out is just 2 inches at either end. However, it's always best to go with the upper size rather than the lower because if at any time the ground slopes away from the caravan door then you are going to struggle pegging the material out with the lower size. Also you need to take into consideration that if the caravan is not level and needs lifting on the door side then that's going to make the caravan higher on the awning side which will take up the 2 inches at either end anyway therefore with the lower size awning you're not going to be able to peg it out at the front so to be on the safe side I would be inclined to lean towards the 900-925 cms. size awning.
My awning is a 900 cms. which the handbook states 886 cms. and never had any problems pegging out at all but my philosophy is that you can always gain some extra height if you ever need it by pulling the caravan on levelling ramps but if the awning is too short then there isn't a solution except to pack the awning away.
The awning manufacturers don't have any leeway except that they have a tolerance to work to like everything else that is manufactured. It's impossible to have 900 cms. of canavas which is almost 30 feet in length, sewn together and get every single awning bang on size therefore they have to apply a minimum size to a maximum size which in this instance is 912 cms. +/- 12 cms. giving a range of 900-925 which is their total allowance commonly known as the tolerance. This means that you could buy an new awning that is anywhere between that range so if you could actually measure the awning it could well be 910 cms.
We've just bought a swift fairway 550 2010 after a ten year brake from touring I'm looking at getting a porch air awning the full awning size for the fairway is 987cm so what size porch awning would fit in the past we always bought a caravan with awning

Porch awnings tend to be measured according to their width, rather than round the awning rail, if that makes sense. The main thing to look out for is to get one that doesn't come half way across a window when you put it up. With vans much older than yours, like my previous one, the height of the van was critical but yours should be no problem.
I have decided to take Tango55's advice and go for the 900-925. We have ordered it today. A Dorema Daytona air. It is fairly new to the UK, could only find one you tube clip in English, but there was a German clip that I managed to get the gist of.
Thanks colin21 for your good comment so i dont need to look for the porch awning to fit my full awning size of 14 but some do say to fit rail 225cm to 255cm so im a bit confused

225cm to 255cm is the height of the awning rail from the ground. Most modern, or relatively modern, caravans will fall in that range, but some older ones with pitched roofs won't.
