I use one of the mini log periodic off ebay, just search "mini log periodic" but these are not really for permanent vehicle mounting. I use it on a tripod with 3m of alu pole but this take a fair bit of storage space.
The issue is that if you use a flat panel type which are compact they are not good in many signal areas. The next best is the flying saucer type but these are not really that good. If you want good permanent one then you are looking a Status aerial but these are expensive and need a roof cut to fit.
Some use screwed brackets for a pole on the side of the van, some carry suction cup pads or magnetic fixings.
