Hello, just been given a powrtouch motor mover. now before fitting it the manual makes reference to putting the isolator in an easy to reach place. the issue I have is when the van is parked up in storage I cant access the battery box, does the wire to the isolator & negative pole need to be under a certain length as the best place for me to put it and the main command unit would be the opposite side of the van to the battery under the seat and isolator in a storage compartment.

I have the same problem, although my mover is a Reich. My control box is fitted directly behind the battery box on the off-side, but my isolating switch is fitted inside the wet locker on the near-side. That's the way I've had it for three years on my previous 'van, and five years on my current 'van, and have never had a problem.

The shorter the better, but using the right cable will restrict the power loss in longer runs.

The manual states 10mm cable so was thinking of using 12mm. Once its all installed my next step will be trying to find out if the umbilical cord on it is just a standard 3.5mm audio jack lead as the powrtouch one is £20

You could leave out the isolator switch early Truma movers never had one as long as it has a cross over bar to disengage the mover from either side.

I've got a powertouch motor mover and when my caravan is stored at home there is no space to get to the battery box. I fitted a relay in place of the main switch and for it to connect power to the mover two switches need to be on, one is on the front of the caravan and the other inside the door.
It works well for me.

We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

Had to do the same with our Powrtouch as no access to battery box when stored. Used 100amp relay and a keyswitch located at front corner of caravan below the awning skirt rail. Did this 5 years ago and had no problems.

I know it’s up to personal choice where to fit the isolator however I am sure I read somewhere that It usually fitted in the battery box where the mains hook up connects. It is fitted so that it is in the way of the plug when turned on to prevent you from having mains connected to van with motor mover on.
As for isolator cables went to halfrauds or Wilco they sell heavy duty cables for car modifications and have pre made cables different lengths already terminated.

ended up just putting a 2nd isolator inside the van near control box.

Dave and Maria, if you buy a 3.5 audio cable it would have to be a mono cable [two contacts on each pin] as most of them today are stereo cables [three contacts on each pin]

Just bought a standard 10m 3.5mm audio lead off ebay and works a treat which was stereo also.

measured the voltage on the socket on the control board, tip ground, rings 12v & 9v

I think I got an umbilical cord but have never used it. What is it for?

its just for incase the battery fails in the remote or you have interference with the radio frequency from remote. you still have a way of working the mover.

Safety wise you need to isolate the mover from the outside of the caravan in an emergency. If control box develops a fault such as relay sticking ,welding it contacts up caravan will keep moving,thus the need to stop it quickly.
