Know how you feel some years ago went camping at end off August I was so cold i actually went into the ladies loo and warm myselve up under the hand dryer.  We have a van now so no probs but my daughters have slept out in a tent and I would always put a blanket under the air bed and a blanket on top then their sleeping bags plus blanket on top and a hot water bottle.

What about trying a thermal blanket like the metal ones you can get? Like the ones they give out at the end of marathons.

Anyone tried it? as they fold down as small as a handkerchief and could be put on top or below the airbed.

Got an update for you. After reading everyone's suggestions, we now have the following:

Tent with footprint groundsheet, bubble-wrap, fleece blankets, camp beds, insulated camp rolls, thermal fleece blankets, sleeping bags, bed socks, fleeces and thermals to wear, hats, emergency 'space' blankets, EHU and a heater. Cold? Us? Never again! Oh, and hot chocolate!!

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, we really appreciate it. It was the one part of the trip we hated, which was such a shame as the rest of it was brilliant. Here's to being boiling hot in Wales next week!!

We camped early May last year and spent a whole night awake shivering.  We invested in some extreme sleeping bags (down to -15) but also added several things to our to take list.  Layers for bed, with bed socks and hats not a particuarly sexy look but its cosy.  Fleece blankets that roll up really small and hot water bottles.  I was amazed that just putting a hat on made a huge difference to how warm I felt.  My neighbour always laughs at my washing on the line when we return from camping cos she says it looks odd having the woolly hats next to the swimming cossies and kids sun hats.

Hi emvid1 - glad someone still up..

We haven't done our maiden trip yet.. but here's what I'm thinking re bedding..

foam mat followed by airbed followed by self-inflating mattress (lidl - just a cheapo I'm afraid), cotton  sheet, 4 season sleeping bag with a cotton liner(single duvet cover really!). I hadn't planned on hats - but socks certainly..

D'ya think this will do the trick?

Sorry to hear about being so cold...

Me and partner sleep on an Aldi double air mattress, with a fitted sheet over, and an Argos double sleeping bag opened up as a quilt over us (and sleep in the nuddy)... and usually too warm!  Even 1 weekend last May when temp dropped to -5 overnight I had to stick feet outside of the quilt as they were too hot.....

Funnee....    OH won't let me take the MW!  Believe me, you do not want to bump into me when I'm cold.. sounds like I'm all sorted then.

(might change my memeber name to 'Princess and the Pea'.....

ps - at least you didn't ask why there wasn't anything between the hat and the socks
