Hi, we are looking at buying a Brenderup 1205sxl trailer with an abs lid. We would like to add 4 bikes to the top of the trailer and are unsure whether they would fit or whether the Erde Load bars would support the weight of the bikes. Has anyone else got this trailer set up with 4 bikes on the top?

I will be interested to see the responses on this, we’re looking for a camping trailer that will take 5 bikes in the top! I was interested in the Brenderup but thought the load bars don’t give all that much space. Now we’re looking at an Anssems GT750 211HT but it is taking up a lot of thought as it is eye wateringly expensive....

Back in 2009 we bought a Lider Alicante trailer that came with a roof rack rated to 100kg, great design which has since changed on the newer models, at the time £800 for the Alicante with ABS Lid and all the extras was a good buy, but did stretch my budget at the time.

I always mention the Lider Saragos with Side Extentions, as they are good value trailers, Lider do provide load bars for carrying bikes, but I would not know the capacity, worth giving Redcap Garage at Blackburn a call as they are the main UK importer for Lider.

I still covet the Saris DV135 Van Body trailer, which due to the exchange rate back in 2015 could be bought in Holland for £2,200
A bargain for a fully braked box trailer with a load capacity of 920kg.
Although at the time I had a commercial application for a trailer which never came to fruition, although as a camping trailer it would have been near perfect.

We’ve got an Anssems GT500 and it’s been brilliant. Had 3 bikes and a roofbox on last summer, loaded up with camping gear and had no problems driving to the Dordogne. Also had it weighed before we went and we were still over 100kg under the rated load!

Yep, the Anssems GT500 makes for an ideal camping trailer, and quite light at 115kg, although the 500kg Gross suitable for most would put me off buying, along with the Straight Drawbar, as I much prefer the "A" Frame design.

My choice from the Anssems range would be the GTB 750-211 VT2 although probably overkill for most £1,600 back in 2011, I did consider that model until I came across the Saris, but in the end stuck with my Lider Trailer.

Can't comment on the bikes bit. However we have the Benderup 1150 with the abs lid (have just gone to the garage and checked) and are happy with it -though bigger is always better.

As a heads up in case any of you are interested in a second hand trailer, we're about to sell the ANSSEMS GT750 (the one with the aluminium top and gas struts) and will go in the for sale section here in the next couple of weeks.

We're selling due to getting a leased car and deciding to go the roof box route - this car is much bigger, as the last camping car was a convertible (with a detachable tow bar).

I first need to figure out where to store my camping gear in the interim and figure out how much they are going for nowadays.

I can highly recommend the trailer by the way.

I'm still deciding which trailer to get.

Anssems GT750 comes in a few flavors of different sizes and heights. I like the look of the trailer but do wonder if the 48cm height would reduce it's usefulness for other purposes.

GT750 201 HT would be to small, it's barely more capacity than my Erde 122 with mesh extensions so I'd really need at least the VT1 on that footprint. i.e. 83cm height vs 48cm. The VT1 is very expensive though when compared to going for a larger standard height HT.

The GT750 211 HT could work but then I could go the whole hog and get the GT750 251 HT which is only a little longer and almost the same price as the 211 HT.

I've seen the 211 HT for just £1200 new whereas the 201VT1 is close to £2000 for about 30% extra volume.

Cheaper options are the Brenderup 1205s XL with ABS lid. The base trailer falls somewhere between the Erde 192 and Erde 213 for size but is 6 inches higher so has greater volume than either even when all are fitted with side extensions.

Lider Cadix another option, but I'd need the ABS lid which is quite shallow so likely side extensions as well.

Anyhow, I'll look out for your advert, if I can get a cost on side extensions it might work out.

Where did you see the Gt750 211HT for £1200 new?

Here

GT 750 211 HT

After some digging they have the 201 HT for just over £1100 on eBay with side extensions at £465 so that could be an option after all.

Ahh! That is a dud advert. Trailertek have actually stopped selling Anssems, I popped in to see them last month. They have got one or two GT750 201HT left, advertised on eBay. They also have one GT750 211VT1. The remaining trailers are at a good price, but the one you have linked is not available. The cheapest I have seen any GT750 211HT is £1475.

OK, Good to know. They are quite a long drive from me but may have been worth it for a suitable deal.

The 251 HT is only 30cm longer so would be my preferred option if going for single height trailer.

Bigbear are doing the Brenderup 1205s XL for £750 and the ABS lid for £345 so that may be looking favourite for price vs storage.

I've seen the GT750 201 VT1 for around £1850 but the XL + ABS will have a lot more volume for a lot less cost. I can also add a 'bog box' to the A-frame to keep the toilet out of the main trailer.

Seems that everything is a compromise!
