Hi, can anyone explain in simple terms the benefit of an 'inverter/charger' over a regular 'inverter'. Doesn't the 12v leisure battery charge up once on 240v hookup anyway? So I don't quite get it. Any advice is welcome. Thanks Jimmy

Can you be a bit more specific about the context you are thinking of.

Is it for charging a caravan battery from mains or perhaps a solar panel or powering electric equipment from a battery or something else entirely.

the inverter / charger would be used instead of the vans built in charger, the ones I have fitted in the past were wired in to the vehicle so that when on mains hook up the battery got charged but they also had a mains power throughput that supplied the vehicle sockets etc but automatically brought in the inverter to do the same when the hookup was disconnected or power lost.

An inverter that produces mains power is normally needed when 240 volt mains isn't available.
You haven't put any details in your profile regarding your outfit so I'm not sure if you are referring to the needs of an inverter whilst camping or not as a caravan has a built in tansformer/charger so an inverter isn't required.
