Welcome to the forum! Just a point of note - you would have been better starting your own post, rather than resurrecting one from 2007!!!

Anyway in answer to your questions, you will need either a camping gaz or calor with matching regulator. The choice is yours really; 901/904/907 are simply bigger cylinders in ascending order) Whichever one you pick, you pay about £20 for the bottle, and then pay for gas on top (about £15 last time I filled a 907).

Calor are generally bigger (and therefore heavier - which may be a consideration). You pay a £30 deposit on the bottle, and then for the gas, amount varies with size, but the rate/kg of gas is normally less for calor than campingaz.

Also to bear in mind; butane burns hotter, but if you plan to use it at the extremes of the season then you will need propane as butane won't come out of the bottle at temps less than about 5 degrees. For this reason we've moved the caravan onto propane calor gas so we can use it all year.

All bottles regardless of brand are resealable.

Hi thanks just looked on the website GoOutdoors but confused about two identical cylinders one states Refill for Campingaz 901 Gas Cylinder  the other states Campingaz 901 Gas (Cylinder only)  confused!! Has the 901 cylinder got the least gas?

As regards 904/907 Campingaz you have the choice of trying to acquire an empty cannister from the likes of local ads, e-bay or council tip and then paying for a refill, or simply buying a non exchange full cylinder which will cost c£40 depending the size and where you get it from.  As regards regulators etc any reputable camping outlet will help you sort out what you need.

Thanks Paul you've made me understand it more I was getting quite shocked at prices but £20 sounds much better price for getting a cylinder then £15 for the gas sounds better than I thought. You've been very helpful thanks very much.

The 901 is a very small cylinder, but uses the exact same regulator/fitting as the 904/907, the 901 is mostly used for lanterns and single burner stoves, I use two 904's that way I never run out of gas, especialy these days with EHU, taking care of the Kettle, Fridge and lighting, hardly used any gas this year whilst down in the Ardeche for 2 weeks, despite the crazy cost of Campingaz, I still prefer thier cylinders due to the compact size and availability in France.

Hi Gina.

           As others have mentioned you do not need to buy a cylinder, only the refill, I got my two 904's and a 907, from folk who were moving over to caravans, gave them a bottle of wine each as a thanks, 901's are very thin on the ground, so you may end up with a 904/907 which are far more practical in anycase, not to mention that they all cost about the same to refill!, good luck with your first camping expedition, I do a 3 night/day trip each year with a friend who is almost as mad as me, we pack all our gear onto bicycles and cycle from Manchester to Scotland, see our tents in my gallery, one of them has two touring bikes tucked away inside the porch!.

yes go-outdoors do them ,904,s but they seem to be getting quite rare

               That willl be the Tar weight, stamped on the side of the cylinder, each cylinder is slightly different to a few gm's or so.
