Ow do.

Looking at the prospect of buying a dedicated jack system for the van. ATM, the only jack i have is a bottle jack, dedicated to my 4x4, but, as I understand it, the jacking points on modern vans is very difficult to access.

I've been looking a the Al-Ko dedicated jack, but the price is a bit silly, so looking to buy the PurpleLine Kojak jacking system.

My reason for posting is this. They do two types of brackets that fit to the van. An L bracket and a V bracket. whats the difference?

The L brackets are usually used with the al-ko side jack, the V bracket usually goes under the axle tube. I'm currently looking into this as both al-ok and the kojack are ridiculously expensive, I have some ideas and have sent drawings to an engineer to utilise the pre drilled holes on the al-ok chassis, together with a good hydraulic bottle jack.

I bought a Kojack the one with the two L brackets that also have spirit levels on them as can be used to level van. I picked it up second hand for £30, it is in very clean condition and even has 4 spare phials {bubble tubes} works quite well for when I remove my wheels in winter and use axle stands, I think they are a bit expensive brand new.

I have the Alko jack but will not use it as it is not safe in my opinion. It all fits in somehow but is at an angle to the ground. The whole lot just collapses in use.

This is a new jack on a new caravan all supplied by a main dealer. I have a small hydraulic trolley jack so carry that. A bottle jack should be OK if the heights are right.

My Kojack is the bottle jack type where the top saddle {as they call it} locates onto a non slip fixing in the "L" bracket. I have never used to level the van as prefer to use my yellow ramps.

The alko side jack is an engineering disaster, how the hell they have not been sued over this POS is beyond me.

Tried the kojack and it is substantially better than the Alko but not safe enough for me.

Resorted to a low entry light weight trolley jack. Keep it in the car and hopefully neve need to use it.

Good point, I certainly wouldn't consider using either of the mainstream jacks for leveling of the van, despite manufacturers suggestions otherwise.
