Having just returned from long weekend trip I'm eye'ing up what I can reduce size wise from my camping equipment. Given we usually go places with electric hook up I was thinking of replacing the gas bottle and two burner stove with a single portable induction hob (from Ikea). However, I will then have to check my new collapsible saucepan and kettle will work with them. Has anyone made this switchover? Is it a good idea?
If the bases of your pan and kettle are stainless steel and will stick to a magnet then they should work on an induction hob. If they're aluminium they won't work.
As Seanfdh says, test your pans with a magnet. We cook a lot when camping and switching to an induction hob was one of our best camping investments. There’s a tasty looking double induction hob by Caterlite which is heavily discounted and may go on my wish list. Also reccomend Tefal Ingenio induction pans.
I wouldn't be replacing any cooking equipment at all, reason being is that if the ehu trips, and it may not be your doing, then your stuck till it gets fixed, gas can run out yes, but at least you can get a refill just about anywhere and have a little warning with its weight. ecconomise elsewhere
