Been using a domestic table top fridge in France for years. That one seems a bit pricey though. Aldi generally do one for the £50 mark. We pickled up a replacement one 18 months ago from Argos for £50 in a sale.
Also very useful at Christmas to save space in the house fridge.
Our first fridge served us well for nigh on 20 years! - bought from Bejam (now Iceland).
"I can't see why a fridge would not work on gas on a ferry." - your gas is supposed to be switched off on the ferry.

A 3 way fridge will work while you are towing although not while you are on the ferry. However, if the fridge is pre-cooled before the journey and filled with lots of cold stuff it should stay cool for a long time.
I can't see why a fridge would not work on gas on a ferry. About 35 years ago my caravan fridge only worked on gas and it worked while being towed, on site and at home. (It was an old caravan with many faults but it was cheap to buy).
Think you'll find the Ferry Company INSIST all gas appliances and gas supplies are turned OFF for duration of trip. Crew do a lot of lashing down and such like out of sight of drivers/passengers so spend time amongst the vehicles on car decks, may well notice it running and call you over Tannoy to come and turn it off!
Couple of years ago, we were caravanning at a CS near Yeovil. Our fridge decided to go wrong. This was a disaster as I had medication that needed to be kept in fridge.
Spoke to the owners about needing to go home early and they quickly offered use of a drinks fridge they had stored in their garage and only came out for Christmas drinks storage.
What a fantastic offer and saved our holiday.
we use a dometic camping fridge which we got off ebay for around £100.
its a 3 way so we can charge up at home run on 12v on the way and plug it into the mains in the awning.use it for our food on the way but just drink when we pitch up and food in the caravan fridge.
