If you go camping with young children, I was wondering what you use at night if they are scared of the dark to make their experience more comfortable and encourage them to camp more. Do you feel as though there is a gap on the market for a more suitable product that would make it more fun as I feel as though camping lamps are not very appealing to young children.

We've just used torches in the past, but just bought cheap batteries as they always got left on overnight.

We also found the wind-up type of torch to be good as well - they found it fun winding it up to charge it.

Just a couple of thoughts . .

Thank you for the ideas, do you think that a lamp that has a projector style light inside where you change the slide would be more appealing to children, similar to night lights you can buy?

You can use a site EHU (electric supply) and then you can use a small plug in night light.

Battery or solar powered fairy lights, you can get them in all shapes, colours and sizes.
Most important of all is dont forget the favourite TEDDY BEAR!!!!!

We always use glow sticks and put them through the zip pulls on the door. Makes it much easier to find them in the night for trips to the loo etc. as well as giving off a nice gentle glow all night.

We bought 2 toy story lamps from a charity shop & plugged em into hook up when they were really young. All they want now is their own headtorch & they're happy

We use a Sealey headtorch and my workshop Sealey LED360 worklamp as a camp lantern. It’s the long one with the dimmer on it.

But camping in UK the summer days are so long the kids don’t really need torches as they are in bed before dark pretty much. Just make sure you knacker them out in the day enough.

When we camped we gave our two daughters a small wind up torch each, and found that once they had finished winding them up they were asleep.

Are you conducting market research or is this question relating to your own camping situation?

I've found our children (and now grandchildren) are more focused on the novelty of actually using torches etc when camping, than concerned with the style of them. For any kids who are scared of the dark, there are plug-in night lights (for when on EHU) and battery lanterns usually have different settings. You can get small touch-activated lights and often, just knowing they can turn on their own personal light can help. Fairy lights (solar or mains) can also cast a subtle light.

So to answer your question; no, i don't think there's a gap in the market for a more child-friendly camping light. After a day in the fresh air, they're usually zonked by bedtime anyhow
