Enquiring if anyone could recommend a decent small solar charger, suitable for backpacking and really just to charge a mobile phone. Don't want to pay a fortune if possible as it will get limited use.

No direct experience but see the question a lot. Consensus is usually for a battery pack like an Anker instead.
Thanks for that SB, will have a look at battery packs. I have a couple of Anker products (audio) and quite pleased with the brand

I've a 10000mHa Anker does me for a week with juice to spare. I'm frugal with phone mind. Also have a USB chargeable head-torch & watch plus a little led USB stick which plug into the Anker to give a good tent light for cooking etc. As I'm usually away in winter, solar wouldn't cut it. I've heard in summer with the panels you can strap to the top of your pack it can take all day to charge a typical phone.
I’ve an anker solar panel which I can bungie cord onto my backpack, and an anker 20k mA battery pack. Charge the battery pack with the solar panel, and then the phone with the battery pack :)
Just an update thanks to Amazon Prime day purchase.
I ended up buying the Anker Power Core 20100 4.8 output. Power IQ technology power bank. Cost £23.09.
Also bought an Anker charger for £10.99.
Good reviews so quite happy. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
